TO SEE A WORLD IN A GRAIN OF SAND
"To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
And Eternity in an hour."
- William Blake
Finding the universe in as minute as a grain of sand? It reminds us how in the microcosmos of a single grain there may be an imprint of the entire macro-cosmos. As the ancient hermetic saying goes”As above so below”. Every form has the touch of the universe, an impression of the divine hand. So we need not look outside or far away for the wisdom of the universe, we need only look inside of our self.
Manly P. Hall had said, “We are the gods of the atoms that make up ourselves but we are also the atoms of gods that make up the universe”. However, the question is not what was said by whom over the years, but whether these words resonate with you. There are these rare moments when it does deeply sync within, that you feel it in your bones, when it blossoms in your psyche, in your soul. It becomes your reality, your philosophy. When you don't have to know the language to understand what is being conveyed. And if you deeply contemplate you realize these moments are gifts, for we do not know the workings behind it, how the energies congregate inside-out to create these beautiful, timeless yet fleeting moments in our life. Like when listening to a song, being in love, or meditating we jump to a different dimension, we don’t know how it happens but it simply does.
"The wise man looks into space and does not
- Lao Tzu
In short, every being and every little thing in this universe is connected with each other, they fit in the great grand design. And we feel lost when we loose this connection. We can see this in our everyday life, how each person strives to achieve things that give meaning to their lives, or get involved in activities without which they simply feel out of their element. I see this nature as our own little effort to realize or remember our connection with oneself, our connection with something more than just the worldly things, more than just eating, sleeping or earning money. I simply admire how great painters, sculptures, singers, brewers even cooks look at each of their endeavors, their work of art as a chance to get closer to perfection, adding a little bit of our own essence to create new layers and dimensions, and ultimately get that taste of divination. It is true, no labor is big or small when everyone is just attempting to reach a state of blissfulness, god, nature, higher consciousness, Holy Spirit -whatever we may call it, through our mundane or spiritual activities, the sole goal being to understand the great design, however, limited our perception.
