My Mantra to Let Go

My father once told me- a person has to sometimes sacrifice his wants- “man marnu parcha” and accept whatever life has to offer with a smile. As his countenance softened, I grasped these uttered words with wide eyes, puzzled… for I was young and got very little out of it, but then came the moment when these words hit me hard. Only then did I realize the depth in these words, the pain hidden behind his voice, the source of his deep humility.

This was a hard lesson every human had to learn no matter how much one tries to escape it or deceive oneself. And the thing is the more you build your guards high up the harder is going to be your fall. Sooner or later reality will strip you naked.., make you vulnerable and strike you down. No matter what, the fall’s gonna be a hard one, is going to shatter you in a million pieces, and will continue to do so, unless you realize the futility of your desires, your foolish endeavors, your gullible nature. So all we can do is when the great fall comes, to let it destroy you, break you and tear you up… to accept for it is but a necessary evil, for only when the glass breaks can we look beyond our reflection, only then can we dare to adjust our lenses to the beauty of the undraped reality, unembellished and pure.

And those are the frail times when your are tempted to blame the other, the situation, or yourself… condemn and criticize for the unkindness, cruelty, savagery… the brutal cruel betrayal, and what not, all to drag you deeper down into the tiny hell you create for yourself. But those few words always lifts me up, untangles me from this web of blame game as I strive to achieve that humility, that understanding I saw then in his eyes. To accept these harsh tests with open palms, to receive it as a gift of god, with gratitude and thankfulness. We have to drench in it to burn down these waste we collect and the bondages we create… from the mind forged manacles, from dependency over other’s approval, of their love, of their fleeting affections...all the empty words and broken promises …and rise again like a phoenix rises from its ashes.
